OpptiAI Internal Linking vs Link Whisper: An Honest Comparison

OpptiAI Internal Linking and Link Whisper both find orphan pages in WordPress. Here is what each one does, where Link Whisper does more, and how to choose.

If you are looking at internal linking plugins for WordPress, Link Whisper is probably on your list. It has been around for years and does a lot. OpptiAI Internal Linking is newer and narrower. This post compares the two using only what each plugin says about itself on its own listing and website, so you can pick the one that fits how you work.

We make OpptiAI Internal Linking, so read this with that in mind. Where Link Whisper does more, we say so.

The short version

  • Choose Link Whisper if you want link suggestions while you write, automatic keyword linking, bulk linking, or broken link checking, and you are happy to pay for the features in its premium version.
  • Choose OpptiAI Internal Linking if your main goal is to find orphan pages and see your internal link counts, with a scan that runs on your site, needs no account, and only inserts links you have reviewed.

What OpptiAI Internal Linking does

OpptiAI Internal Linking is a free plugin on WordPress.org. Its focus is finding pages nothing links to and helping you fix them carefully.

  • Orphan page scan. Lists published content with no inbound internal links.
  • Inbound and outbound counts. Every scanned post and page gets both counts. Links inside blocks and shortcodes are included.
  • Link map. Shows which pages are hubs and which are cut off.
  • Content types. Posts and pages by default. You can add other public post types, including WooCommerce products.
  • Runs locally, no account. The scan, pages list and link map run in WordPress and do not contact any outside service.
  • Review before insert. A link is only added when you apply one you have reviewed. It never self-links, never nests inside an existing link, saves a revision, follows your per-page link cap, minimum word count and excluded pages, and leaves the post unchanged if there is no safe place for the link.
  • Optional AI suggestions. The Opportunities screen can suggest links for a page you choose. This needs an OpptiAI account and an administrator opt-in, and it is free to try.

Its listing does not mention suggestions while you write, automatic keyword linking or broken link checks, and says it does not edit titles, metadata or sitemaps.

Link Whisper has a free version on WordPress.org (Link Whisper Free) and a paid premium version.

In the free version, according to its WordPress.org listing:

  • AI link suggestions inside the WordPress editor. You copy the suggested link and paste it where suggested.
  • A reports page showing which pages have very few or no internal links pointing to them, plus outbound internal and external link counts for each article.
  • Settings to ignore certain words or phrases, and an option to open internal links in a new tab.

In the premium version, Link Whisper lists a lot more, including:

  • Adding several links at once, with anchor text already selected.
  • Adding inbound links to older pages, which is the direct fix for orphans.
  • Auto-linking: you set keywords and target URLs and it links mentions of those keywords, with an option to link only once per post.
  • A broken link checker that lets you edit or delete broken links.
  • A bulk URL changer for when your URL structure changes.
  • Target keywords, which can be imported from Yoast, Rank Math and other SEO plugins.
  • Cross-site link suggestions between sites running the premium version.
  • A one-click setup that groups related posts into topic clusters.

Link Whisper's site says its suggestion mode does not change content without your approval, unless you turn on auto-linking rules you configure yourself. Its listing also says it supports many languages besides English and works with WooCommerce and most custom post types.

Pricing. Link Whisper's premium plans are priced by number of sites. Its pricing page lists $97 a year for one WordPress site, with AI credits included. Check the pricing page for current details.

On features, Link Whisper does more. If you want suggestions while you write, auto-linking rules, bulk link changes or broken link checks, OpptiAI Internal Linking does not offer them, and Link Whisper does. Link Whisper has also been on WordPress.org much longer. Our plugin is at version 0.1.3.

Where OpptiAI Internal Linking may suit you better

If you mainly want a clear list of orphan pages and your link counts, OpptiAI Internal Linking gives you that free, on your own site, with no account. Nothing is sent outside your site unless an administrator turns on AI suggestions and someone asks for them. When you do apply a link, the safety rules are spelled out: whole words only, one link per target, no edits to headings, code, shortcodes or image alt text, and a saved revision every time.

How to choose

  1. Start with the problem. If you do not know how many orphan pages you have, run a free scan first.
  2. Decide how hands-off you want to be. Keyword auto-linking is a Link Whisper premium feature.
  3. Think about what else you need. Broken link checks and URL changes are in Link Whisper premium, not in our plugin.

If finding orphan pages is the first job, install OpptiAI Internal Linking free from WordPress.org and run a scan.
